Char Kway Teow is one of my favourite Singaporean dishes because of its sweet and fragrant taste from the ingredients. Hence, I can always appreciate a good plate of Char Kway Teow. On this occasion, I came to the renowned Tiong Bahru Food Centre.

My original plan to try the famous Hokkien Mee here was dashed because the stall was closed on Sundays. I decided to try the Char Kway Teow stall since it was close to the Hokkien Mee one. Its name was Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow. The stall sells two portions – $3 and $4. As I had already eaten the chicken rice in the other article, I opted for the $3 portion. I was surprised that even during lunchtime the queue was relatively short.

What struck me was the aroma of the Char Kway Teow. It was exceedingly fragrant and you could smell the Wok Hei. As with every plate of Char Kway Teow, the main ingredients of fish cake, lup cheong(chinese sausage), beansprouts, hum(cockles), and eggs were present.

I was in awe when I took my first bite, as it was amazingly delicious! I could taste the Wok Hei as the Wok hei aroma permeated through the noodles. It was so tasty that I had to stop myself from overeating. It was the type of Char Kway Teow that once you start eating, you can’t stop as you wolf down the whole plate. I also found the Char Kway Teow to be slightly moist and wet, which I prefer.

In addition, The hum was surprisingly big and they tasted juicy and fresh. My only complaint for this exceptional dish was the lack of hum as I could only find two. Maybe it’s because I ordered the $3 portion and the $4 portion might have more hum on the plate.

All in all, it was a delightful and enjoyable plate of kway teow. This one was more savoury than sweet, which I prefer. It’s one of the better Char Kway Teows I’ve had, and I’ll be on the hunt to savour even more delicious plates of Char Kway Teow across the island.
