One of the less common hawker foods in Singapore is satay, but when there is a satay stall, it’s usually good. DJ Satay Grill for example, is located at the newly revamped Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. The stall is unique because it doesn’t sell pork as it’s Muslim owned. However, don’t be too disappointed as their variety of choices which include chicken, mutton and beef more than make up for this. Each piece of satay is sold at $0.90/stick, and it comes in a set of 5 or 10 sticks. I bought 10 sticks with an equal combination of chicken and mutton Satay.

I admit that I am not the biggest fan of mutton for its gamey taste. However, I love mutton satay as the meat isn’t gamey at all! In fact, the mutton meat from DJ Satay was sweet and flavorful, although it was slightly on the tough side. The chicken satay on the other hand, had a wonderful chargrilled appearance and it was magnificently sweet and tender.

Of course, who can eat satay without the peanut sauce? DJ Satay’s peanut sauce was thick, savoury, and sweet. It complemented the satay meat perfectly, although my only problem was the sauce was too spicy for me after a few dips due to my low spice tolerance.

If you want a quick fix of satay, DJ Satay Grill is a stall you should try as its delicious satay will entice you to want more of it!
