For all the talk that the East side of Singapore has the best food, I think the West side has amazing food as well. There are multiple hawker centres in the west side but Yuhua Market and Hawker Centre are one of the most notable.
As is customary, I usually look for any good chicken rice stalls since it is one of my favourite foods. I had a quick look around Yuhua hawker centre as it was my first time there and noticed a snaking queue around one of the stalls. It immediately garnered my attention as stalls with long queues will usually have really tasty food.
After about a 25 minute wait, I ordered a plate of white chicken rice($4.60). The aroma of the chicken rice immediately wafted into my nose, which whetted my appetite. I first tried the rice as it’s usually the first thing to do in order to gauge a good chicken rice. It wasn’t too dry and had a pleasant fragrant taste from the pandan leaves which were used to cook the rice. I was given chicken breast meat as the stall had run out of chicken drumstick, thigh and wing. Chicken breast tends to be tougher compared to the other meats and while my chicken breast wasn’t particularly tender, it was juicy and flavourful enough to leave me satisfied.
The soup was the best thing as it tasted light, sweet and had a hint of carrot taste. It was very delicious and was the perfect way to cut through the oil from the chicken rice.
Xing Yun Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, while it isn’t perfect, it is delicious and a decent enough chicken rice stall. It certainly goes to show that the West side of Singapore does have great food as well!
