I may have found the best duck rice in Singapore, completely by accident. Since stage 3 of the Thomson East Coast line was opened on 23 June, I decided to pay Marine Parade a visit as it’s now more convenient to do so with the new Marine Parade MRT station.
I visited the Marine Parade Food Centre and spotted a snaking queue at a stall called Kun Ji Duck Rice. The general rule in Singapore is that if you spot a food stall with a queue, it means that the food they’re selling must be good. I joined the queue and had to wait for almost 30 minutes before it was my turn to order. I chose to get the Braised Duck rice ($4.50), although they also sell Roasted Duck, Roast Pork and Char Siew rice.
The first thing that I noticed was my braised duck rice was coated in a thick layer of duck sauce. The rice was not as dry but rather moist as compared to other duck rice that I’ve tried and the duck sauce added a sweet flavour to the rice. However, the star of the show was the duck meat. It was succulent and juicy, and some of the meat was so tender that it melted in my mouth. I’ll go as far as to say that It was the best braised duck meat that I’ve had yet!
I rather envy people living in the East, especially in Marine Parade, as they have a gem of a duck rice stall right in their neighborhood! Now I know why Kun Ji Duck Rice still has people queuing for their food past lunch hour! They’ve built a reputation for their delectable plate of duck rice. No doubt I’d recommend Kun Ji Duck Rice as one of the premier duck rice stalls in Singapore!
