I am in love with the food served by the stalls at Ang Mo Kio Central Food Centre. This time I tried one of these stalls which specialises in Hokkien Mee. Considering that it was during the lunch rush I had to wait for approximately 15-20 minutes. During this time I smelled the aroma of fragrant noodles being cooked.
I ordered a small portion for $4. This Hokkien Mee was more wet than others as they were cooked in a seafood based broth. Since I ordered a small one, there weren’t many ingredients in the bowl. I could only find 2 prawns, some squid, and pork belly.
Like with most hokkien mee or char kway teow it contained that signature wok hei, however it was much less pronounced compared to the other stalls I’ve tried. Though the seafood broth balanced this out as it still made the dish immensely savoury. In fact I still wolfed the dish down.
The complaint I would have is the lack of ingredients in the dish. I intend to order the medium next time to see if there is any difference. Though overall, a very solid plate of Hokkien Mee which I would recommend if you are ever at Ang Mo Kio Food Centre!
