I’ve visited Japan countless times and have eaten at fast-food spots like McDonald’s Japan and Mos Burger. However, I had never been to Denny’s in Japan—until my latest trip. Unlike McDonald’s and Mos Burger, Denny’s is a casual family restaurant that operates 24 hours a day and serves both breakfast and dinner. On this trip, I finally fulfilled my wish to visit Denny’s, and to be honest, the breakfast was both affordable and delicious!

There are several Denny’s outlets in Tokyo, and I chose to visit the one near Hamamatsucho Station. Breakfast service was still ongoing when I arrived, and I was seated almost immediately. The breakfast menu was diverse, offering both Western and Japanese-style dishes. I opted for the Western breakfast and ordered the Grand Breakfast set with over-medium eggs. I also added a mini French toast, which was a required add-on. The total came to 1,045 yen (about $8.77 SGD). The set included an all-you-can-drink beverage option and a banana yogurt—great value for around $9 Singapore dollars.

My Grand Breakfast set came with a slice of bacon, a salad with sesame dressing, two medium-well eggs, a small sausage, and interestingly, fries. This was actually my first time being served fries for breakfast. For my drink, I chose Sencha tea, and of course, the set included the banana yogurt as well.

I started with the eggs, which were cooked just right. Even though they were medium-well, the yolks were still runny, and the edges of the egg whites were nicely crispy. The sausage was tender and surprisingly juicy for its size, with slightly crispy ends that I really enjoyed. The salad was served warm, and the lettuce was fresh and juicy. The sesame dressing had a slight sourness, likely from a splash of vinegar. The French toast was served with maple syrup, and the bread was moist and naturally a little sweet. My favorite way to eat French toast is to dip it in maple syrup, which adds an extra layer of sweetness—and I thoroughly loved the one I was served.

If I had one complaint, it would be the bacon. Although it was tasty, it was overly salty, and I found myself relying on my Sencha tea to cleanse my palate. I love bacon, but I admit it’s often too salty in general.

Finally, the banana yogurt was a bit too sour for my liking. The bananas were sweet, but the yogurt itself was overly tart, so I didn’t finish it (though I did eat all the bananas!).

As for the restaurant vibe, it was relaxing. Soft music played in the background, and a drink bar greeted customers at the entrance. You can choose anything you like—from coffee and tea to soft drinks.

Overall, my experience at Denny’s was delightful. Not only was the food enjoyable, but the staff were also courteous and helpful. The price of the breakfast set was truly value for money—it’s rare to find a breakfast that includes both an all-you-can-drink option and yogurt. I’d definitely recommend giving Denny’s a try if you’re in Japan; you’ll get great value along with an appetizing breakfast.
